How to pose and do your makeup for great prom pictures

Looking great in prom photos is a matter of knowing how to pose, do your makeup and gain control of your facial expressions. You don't neccessarily have to take notes while watching America's Next Top model to ace these elements, though that certainly won't hurt. Herein, a few tips for looking great in prom photos. Since prom photos show your full body, remember to stand up tall, with your belly in, to prevent pooching. Be careful not to squash your arms to your sides or you may wind up looking heavier than you really are. Practice this classic prom pose: turn your body three quarters of the way toward the camera with one foot in front of the other and one shoulder closer to the photographer to look slim and trim.

Bring makeup items like lipstick, powder and blush with you to the prom so you can slip into the bathroom for touch-ups before you have your photo taken. Smoky eye makeup is no-fail. It can be seductive, sexy, fun or conservative and goes with any gown.

Focus your eyes slightly above the camera lens, rather than staring directly into to it. Move your face forward slightly to prevent the dreaded double chin effect, and tip your chin down ever so slightly. By putting your tongue behind your teeth, you'll relax your smile and it'll look like you adore your date, whether or not that's truly the case (we've all been there). --Stephanie Simons
