Julianne Hough's Hairstyle

How to style your hair like Julianne Hough

Much like Carrie Underwood, Julianne Hough is one lucky breakout star. She managed to turn her regular Dancing With the Stars role into a singing career (and snagged hottie Chuck Wicks in the process). When her hair isn't tied back for dancing, it's long and loose and softly cascading around her shoulders, always with a sexy swoop in her long bangs to channel Jessica Rabbit. It's a look that's best achieved with velcro rollers. Here's how to copy Julianne Hough's hairstyle or try it on in our virtual hairstyle studio.

To get Julianne Hough's hair, wash your locks with a voluminizing shampoo and conditioner (but refrain from doing so every day as they tend to dry out the hair). Blow dryer in hand, begin by focusing on the back of your head, where professional stylists start, lifting hair at the root with your fingers and concentrating on drying the roots thoroughly.

When the roots are dry, part hair down the middle all the way down the back of your scalp (as if you were going to make pigtails) and push these two large sections of hair toward your face. Aim the blow dryer down the shaft of hair and brush toward the face, using a wide paddle brush to smooth the hair. Remove the center part and continue to brush and blow dry your hair, alternating arms regularly, and moving the paddle brush in the opposite direction of hair growth to achieve volume.

When your hair is completely dry, rub a few drops of a lightweight shine enhancing, frizz-busting serum between the palms of your hands and run it through your hair, avoiding the scalp to steer clear of a potentially greasy look. Wrap two- or three-inch wide sections of dry hair around large velcro rollers and secure with coated bobby pins that won't snag your hair.

To create Julianne Hough's sexy front swoop, wrap long bangs around a large velcro roller, rolling it forward toward your forehead (instead of rolling it backward toward the crown of your head). Leave the culers in for 20 minutes and spritz ever so lightly with medium hold hairspray to lock the style in all night long. --Stephanie Simons
