I love the Estee Lauder Double Wear Max Cover - this is the best makeup for oily skin because it stays on inspite of skin oil and is long lasting. I first apply the Mattify Cosmetics Ultra Powder as a primer, then apply the Estee foundation with a makeup sponge, then apply a second dusting of the Mattify Ultra Powder. This keeps my skin matte and oil free for the whole day and makes my complexion look flawless.

I have had oily skin for awhile now and would recommend this routine to combat it and make your makeup flawless all day. This is what I do and it works for me!!

1. Wash your face with the Bare Escentuals liquid face wash (it is kind of pricy but you only need one or two pumps for your whole face and the bottle lasts for MONTHS)
2. Then use the Stridex sensitive skin pads all over your face, one will do. If your skin isn't sensitive you can use the regular one, it might work better.
3. Use a primer, I like the Rimmel one. It is inexpensive and really works.
4. Use a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone. I use the Laura Mercier one. The ELF Studio one is a really good inexpensive alternative.
5. Use Bare Escentuals powder!! There is no powder better than the Bare Minerals powder. I use the Matte one but if your skin doesn't need it, then just get the regular one because the matte one can dry your skin out quite a bit.
6. Last, I blot my skin with an oil blotter sheet before I leave the house and apply an HD powder to my T-zone (I use Makeup Forever, but the ELF HD powder is also really good)

I used to have really oily skin, but I started eating healthier and drinking lots of water to detoxify.

I would suggest staying away from anything creamy as much as possible, but if it's a must, look for a foundation that says "oil-free and light-weight" on the back. With oily skin, it's easier to get your pores clogged with makeup and that can result in acne! So you have to be really careful in choosing the right one.

Here's my list (in no particular order):

1. L'oreal Paris True Match Minerals Foundation (Mineral foundations work best for oily skin!)
2. Revlon Colorstay Mineral Mousse with SPF 20
3. Maybelline Pure Mineral Foundation (Another over-the-counter mineral foundation, not as pricy as the rest. I've seen bad reviews on mineral foundations such as Maybelline for their unwanted fillers but if you don't have oversensitive skin, you should be fine. It worked better for me than Faerie Organic which had no fillers at all.)
4. Clinique superbalanced makeup (Pricier than the rest, but it's definitely worth it!)

Unless you're going to be using pressed powder after a liquid foundation I advise you use a powder based foundation that offers full coverage, & if you don't like powders, sure use normal foundation - but it's better to get it water proof; it will last much longer, trust me!

i think powder would dry it up nicely

What about a pressed powder? I've used those before, and they seem to work. I think liquid would make you oilier, no?

I agree with @RoryGautsche about Bare Minerals. Their Matte Foundation will stay on all day, and it also has oil absorbers. Plus, the natural ingredients won't clog your pores as oily skin tends to be acne-prone. For best results, pair their Matte Foundation with their Oil Control Primer and Mineral Veil :)

I've heard great things about Laura Mercier Oil-Free Liquid Foundation for Oily Skin. Maybelline also has a nice Oil-Free liquid foundation that stays on all day! My t-zone is oily and I've had luck with Bare Minerals.....I think any of those would work for oily skin. You might want to try a "mattifier" before you apply your foundation. Philosophy makes a product called, "Never Let Them See You Shine" that works great! Hope this helps!
