Well, it depends what color hair she has. I have blonde hair and started shaving the summer of going into 6th grade. I didn't shave my underarms until going into 7th grade because my blonde hair didn't really show up. However, make sure you tell her once she starts, she will never be able to go back.

Interesting to read these answers. My daughter is only 5 months old. Getting a taste of the future here.

I didnt start shaving untill i was in year 8. I wish i never used a razor to start off with, as i agree hair removal cream is much more better for less thicker hair, which I prefer to use. If your daughter is ready then let her, its her choice which way she wants to remove hair. Razor or veet :D

I started shaving in 5th grade and was very excited to do so. My babysitter had an older daughter and I wanted to be just like her. I asked and my step mom took the opportunity to take me to the store, buy me what I needed (so I had my own) and left me in the bathroom to figure it out. I didn't cut myself. You'd be surprised... young girls know much more than we give them credit for.

i started in yr 7, just make sure, if your child starts shaving with a razor, to smother the spot shes shaving in cream so she wont cut herself, or buy one of those shavers with the full soap bar around it, they dont hurt and they're really good!

My advice would be that when your child transitions from elementary school to a new school where she is the bottom grade (be it middle school or junior high), buy her a razor and shaving gel, but present it to her as an open offer. Let her know that the option to shave is there when she wants it, and she can choose if and when she starts, and that you'll support her decision.

Share with her the full facts: not every woman shaves (though most in the US do), how often women shave, where they shave, basic shaving safety, and what to expect as you shave and if you stop shaving for an extended period of time. If she wants, demonstrate how you would shave on your ankle. Make sure she knows that she can always ask you if she has a question, no matter how embarrassing it is.

Most children will know when it's time to start, if that's what they want ... when they enter a new school, they're hyper-aware of their image and the way that others perceive them. Whether or not you've discussed shaving, her friends proabbly have, and she's been drawing comparisons and forming opinions. By giving her the option, tools, and information needed to shave, but removing the pressure and making it more about her freedom and decision, you're empowering her.

I have the same question! I guess it depends on how much hair she has and if the hair is dark. I just don't want anyone to say "you have hairy legs" to my daughter! Kids can be so mean! I'm thinking of starting her around 11 if it can wait that long. She is 9 but pretty hairy! Yes, start with a triple blade. I would think this summer would be a good time for you to start the shaving process. Good luck, let me know how it goes!
