I wear nail polish all the time and my nails aren't very damaged at all, except they do turn yellowish but this can't be avoided with any colours. I use the cheapest nail polishes, too, and replace it at least weekly. If you're really concerned, use an acetone-free nail polish remover which is supposed to be less harmful than with acetone. Not sure what benefit it has though, but it works fine for me! x

I use clear nail strengthener on my fingernails and allow the white of the nail to grow to 4 mm long. However, after a while the outer layer of my nails will peel and I have to give my nails a rest without anything on them for several weeks, and trim the nails shorter during that time.

Funny you should ask. I just went and had a manicure and the manicurist talked me into a new OPI product that doesn't chip, or so she said. It looked very nice on but it took three different bottles of some strange product and when it started chipping (in much less than two weeks) it ripped the first layer of my nail bed off with it. However, regular nail polish is quite harmless.
