Well the pockets sticking out doesnt have anything to do with length,its just fashionable. I dont know why. Those shorts are not too short. I think the top of my legs are fat, but don't worry about it if you have the same issue. No one else notices.too short is when its only an inch or two longer than your underwear.

Only if you are female. A male like myself has boy bits so the length needs to be longer. I personally wear denim skirts instead of shorts. I do wear underpants with them.

I guess it depends on how you want people to view you...what kind of message you give when wearing super short shorts. I like short but you have to be able to sit without your butt touching your chair..kinda gross.who knows what has been on that chair, or car seat!!!..Put them on and bend over in front of a mirror and see what everyone else sees...it is your reputation as with stars the sleasier they look the more popular they are...not quite the same in real life...I do agree that on the beach short is fine!

Anyway, it also depends on where you're heading to..
If you go to the beach, there is nothing such as too short for shorts.. :)

"well as long as it covers your butt" is an ok rule. If depends on your age. I would wear these anywhere from my 20's to 30's. but not in my forties. I wouldn't wear these to any place you had a fancy event.

Make sure your butt isn't hanging out. Personally, the "as long as your fingers" rule is no good. I have long arms, and they go almost down to mid-thigh. If you're short, booty shorts are good, b/c they don't make you look short. If you're tall like me, I suggest something a little longer. Short-shorts, but not "crotch" shorts. Hope this helped :)

The pockets sticking out is in style and the shorts are made with longer pocket linings for "the look". I think short shorts are cute but when it looks like you are wearing denim undies then they are too short.

Usually when pockets show in shorts it's because the pockets are made to be longer, and that's a cute style. However, shorts are too short when your ass hangs out, I think some girls don't think of that and it really looks unclassy & definitely not cute.

In my opinion, not too short. It does, however, depend on your body type and the rest of the outfit. The ones in the photo are cute...you could wear with flip flops and J Crew V-neck tee, (I love those)! I have some Joe's from last season that the pockets stick out just a bit. I wear with a fuller top and make sure to spray tan my legs...ha ha! Love them, super cute and stylish!
